Learn to Fly

In Canberra, initial training for Pilots of Radio-Controlled Model Aircraft is the responsibility of affiliated Clubs.
If you wish to learn to fly then join the Club of your choice.

ACTAA assists by maintaining a register of Instructors who have been qualified through the MAAA Flight Instructor training program.
Qualified Instructors are identified by official MAAA Instructor Wings Badges.
Locate an active Flying Instructor in your Club via your Club Secretary.

ACTAA also supplies to each instructor, at no cost, an Instructor Manual and stocks of Student Pilot Log Books.

Gold Wings Qualification

In Canberra, all Instructors are qualified to train student R/C pilots to the MAAA Gold Wings standard. The Chief Flying Officer administers the Gold Wings accreditation test, consisting of both theory and practical flying elements.

ACTAA supplies to the CFI, at no cost, the Gold Wings Test Schedule and stocks of MAAA Gold Wings Badges for presentation to successful Pilots.

Instructor Training

Periodically, ACTAA organizes R/C Flight Instructor training courses, which are supervised by the MAAA Chief Flying Instructor. Applicants to attend these course must be a current member of an ACT aeromodelling club and must hold an MAAA Gold Wings qualification.

For details of the next course contact the ACTAA Chief Flying Instructor.
